Morón: The Crisis Beyond the Headlines

Today, our team reached Morón, near the epicenter of the devastating earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela. While much of the world’s attention has rightly focused on the destruction in Caracas and La Guaira, what we witnessed in Morón confirmed that another humanitarian crisis is unfolding in communities receiving far less attention.

The destruction is extensive. Homes have been damaged or destroyed, businesses have closed, and many families have now endured three days without electricity. Refrigerators no longer preserve food, grocery stores are struggling to replenish supplies, and access to basic necessities is becoming increasingly difficult. For many families, the greatest concern is no longer the earthquake itself—it is how they will feed their children in the days ahead.

Today, our convoy of five trucks carrying emergency relief supplies arrived safely in Morón. Working alongside trusted local church leaders, we unloaded food, clean water, hygiene supplies, and other essential items into a local church that is now serving as a distribution center for the surrounding communities.

Seeing those trucks arrive brought hope to people who have been living with uncertainty and fear. It was a reminder that they have not been forgotten.

We are profoundly grateful to everyone who has prayed, donated, and shared this appeal. Your generosity is already making a tangible difference in the lives of families facing extraordinary hardship.

Yet for Next Step, emergency relief is only the first step.

When the immediate crisis subsides, our work will continue. We will stand alongside churches, community leaders, and families as they rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, strengthen local enterprises, and create opportunities for the next generation. Our goal is not simply to help communities survive this disaster, but to help them emerge stronger and more resilient.

We believe the most effective humanitarian response empowers people rather than creating dependency. By working through trusted local partners who know their communities, we can respond quickly today while investing in sustainable recovery for tomorrow.

The road ahead will be long.

Thank you for standing with us. Your prayers, generosity, and partnership are helping us meet urgent needs today while laying the foundation for lasting transformation tomorrow.
